Serviceberry, (Amelanchier arborea), or otherwise known as Juneberry is a small forest tree that occupies the lower canopy in several different types of forest. It is important for wildlife because of the berrries it produces, which was also edible to humans.  The tree is most easily recognized by the restricted size (it seldomly achieves 10" D.B.H.), the stripes in the bark and the placement of crown relative to other trees in the forest.
