A couple of Black morels (Morchella conica) I found in a field. These grow more often in Hardwood forests, particularly if the forest has a high percentage of White ash (Fraxinus americana), but they also are abundant in Aspen stands and around the base of Apple trees as well. They are one of 4 common species of edible morel mushrooms in Northern Michigan. I have picked many of these over the years, cooked and eaten them with wild leek. They taste fantastic. Just make sure you can identify them properly.
