Northern hardwoods

This is an autumn photograph of a Michigan Northern hardwoods forest.  Northern hardwoods is a specific cover type in which Sugar maple (Acer saccharum) and American beech (Fagus grandifolia) predominate, along with a unique combination of other species such as Red oak (Quercus rubra), White ash (Fraxinus americana), Basswood (Tilia americana), Black cherry (Prunus serotina), Yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis), Eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis), Red maple (Acer rubrum), and others.
